In the first year 600,000 children were saved with Atmit. It is cooked over an open fire like oatmeal to a thin consistency the children drink.

Atmit is also sent to 14 other countries throughout the world. The Church can produce enough Atmit to make a difference in the life of a child like this one for about 50 cents.

This is a wonderful place to end our tour. The guests have enjoyed a delicious treat and felt the spirit of world-wide charity in action.

What a wonderful opportunity Elder Millet and I have to serve a mission at Temple Square. We love to share our testimony of the gospel with everyone we meet.

In the Humanitarian Room at Welfare Square I found this darling poncho on display.


When Warren and I went on our mission to Oakland, California, Brother Peterson who cut quilt squares for us for years ran out of fabric so Sister Bowman had him cut fleece scraps into whatever size square he could make. Many bags of these square were sent to the HC in Salt Lake. When I got home I was so disappointed as I felt the fleece was wasted. Well, to my surprise it was not.

Some wonderful lady took the time and effort to crochet the 4" or so squares together and make this cute and useful poncho. She was as diligent as Brother Peterson because she made many, many of them.

Perhaps the 4th part of the welfare system is giving older people something meaningful to do.
