We met the Henry family today at the temple: Esther, Rose Ann, Rose, Charles, Charlie, and Rachel. John is standing behind Rose and Charles. Charles is Elder Millet's uncle - his mother's brother. They live in Rigby. John's daughter Stephanie was married in the temple today. It was wonderful to see them.

Elder Millet and Charles Henry share the same birthday, June 20. Charles turned 17 the day Elder Millet was born.

Salt Lake is a truly amazing city. Everything is so clean. I was really impressed with this big vacuum truck that was getting all the stuff out of the drains along the street. We met a gentleman today whose job is to polish the statues on Temple Square and in the Salt Lake Cemetary - his full time job.

Today Elder Richard G. Scott of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles spoke at our Mission Conference.

Elder Scott encouraged us to write the following: "Throughout the remainder of my life I will diligently seek to learn by what I see, hear, and feel. I will write down the inportant things I learn and I will do them." He said of seeing, hearing and feeling that feeling was most important and he encouraged us to write our feelings about what we hear and see.

Elder Scott talked about Alma 7:23. He encouraging the Sisters to respond with their thoughts about being humble, submissive, gentle, easy to be entreated, patient, long-suffering and temperate in all things. He encouraged us to be kind but to be firm in standing for what we believe.

Elder Scott illustrated seeking the Lord's will as a circle. As we ponder, decide, and pray the Lord's will is revealed to us as we continuously repeat the circle. In this way we do not remain as we are but become what the Lord would have us be.

Elder Scott spoke of the Apostolic mantle and bore testimony of the atonement of the Savior. He said the Savior understood the plan of our Father in Heaven and knew that his atonement must be carefully and perfectly done to compensate for the demands of justice. Mercy comes when we are obedient to the demands of the plan. Christ had to experience all the horrors and sufferings of the world in a perfectly clean mind and body. He asked, "How did the Father feel when Christ said, "My God, why hast thou forsaken me?"

Elder Scott bore his testimony, "Jesus Christ lives. His love is perfect. I know he lives, he is our Savior and Redeemer. I know of his love.

We felt of Elder Scott's love and felt the Spirit as he spoke and testified. We all had the opportunity to shake his hand. What a marvelous Mission Conference.

We are so blessed and fortunate to be part of the Temple Square Mission. We love being here and serving the Lord.

While in Utah President Bush spent about an hour with The First Presidency.

President George W. Bush visited Salt Lake City and his motorcade came right past our house. We caught the excitement in the following pictures.

This morning, our PDay, we found baracades all along 1st Avenue when we went to the temple. When we came home from shopping there were 2 tow trucks and we wondered what was happening. Since we do not have a TV or radio we are oblivious to what is going on.

Later in the day Elder Millet went out and asked a neighbor sitting on the side of the street what was up. She said, "President Bush is coming to Salt Lake and his motorcade will go up this street.

Wow! We got our lawn chair and camera and waited.

Police cars and motorcycle cops patroled the street for about an hour before President Bush's arrival.
(2498)

Neighbors across the street tried to come out of their parking lot and the police was on them immediately. Two bikers came through and the cop turned on a dime and went after them. Another car came down the hill and the police forced him into the nearest parking lot.
(2499)

The security for this visit was great - including a helicopter.
(2500)

When the Davis County Bomb Squad went by we knew the President would be along soon.
(2501)

Traffic was stopped on State Street also. The motorcade came up the hill. There were several cars in the procession.
(4106)

We assumed the President was in the limo with the flags. We had our cameras to our faces and clicked as fast as we could.
(4104)

Of course, every motorcade needs a fire truck, just in case.
(4105)

The rear motorcade zoomed by. It was so fast that it took both Elder Millet's and my photos to tell the story.

Tonight President Bush will attend a super expensive fund raising dinner and tomorrow he will visit the Church Offices. Parking will not be allowed in the underground lots or on the street. It will be an exciting day. We will be serving in Park City and will miss it. Oh, well, we did get a front seat to the excitement today.

Friends keep popping up at every turn. Elder Millet enjoyed seeing Gale Jensen again.
(2481)

Well, time flies - we have just finished our second transfer. This is our new schedule.

Elder Millet and I have been called to be the Referral Center Coordinators so we will be spending lots of time in the RC. This transfer we also have 2 days of family history - on at Family Search in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building and another at the Family Tree Center in Park City. We are happy that we serve 4 mornings and 2 evenings for the next 6 weeks.

This side gives the Sunday schedule. We are so glad that we can continue to see "Music and the Spoken Word." For the summer it will be at the Conference Center because of the larger crowds.

We took a back stage tour of the Conference Center. One does not realize just how massive this building is. The seating area will hold 21,000 people but the back, under and above is huge. This is the back of the pipes for the organ.
(2459)

The tunnels come from all areas under Temple Square. The hearse for President Hinckley's funeral came through this one. Usually the General Authorities come on electric 4 to 6 passenger golf-like carts.
(2460)

This area is under the choir seats. To create a stage the seats can easily be moved by a hydraulic pump that puts a layer of air under each section.
(2461)

The podium used for General Conference is stored in sections and can easily be put together by hydraulics. The wood is beautiful and when stored is protected by heavy packing mats.
(2462)

The work area is huge with many and varied workshops along the right side of the pictures.
(2463)

All deliveries that come to the Church Office and Administration Buildings and the entire Temple Square campus come to this area under the Conference Center. The items are then distributed.
(2464)

This is the sewing room where the costumes for the many productions are made. The hallway keeps a record of all performances with a framed poster of each event as they occur.
(2466)

The most exciting part of the tour was the translation center. 59 of the 92 languages are translated here.

Other languages are translated in their own countries. The live broadcast is beamed by satelite to, say, Asia. It is received, translated and beamed back with a 5 second delay. This was most amazing.
(2470)

I took this picture especially for Troy. Conference is translated in Pohnpeian in this booth. Troy served in the Micronesia-Guam Mission.
(2469)

This marble wall is on the roof of the Conference Center. This mandate is certainly being carried out on Temple Square.
(2471)

This is a fountain on the roof. You can see the temple in the background.
(2473)

The skylights illuminate many areas of the Conference Center. The trees create a woods like atmosphere on the roof.
(2476)

The canal feeds the waterfall that runs down the front of the Conference Center.
(2477-2524)

From the edge of the roof you can see Temple Square.
(2479)

The prairie garden on the roof recreates how the valley may have looked when the Saints arrived in 1847 - prairie grass and wild flowers - minus the trees.

Well, we had a different kind of snow today - dried blossoms from the Elm trees. The gardeners worked hard all day and, of course, never quite kept up with the down pour. The "snow" tracked into the buildings and many guests had them in their hair.

Many people know the Bair family from Ephrata. Elder and Sister King, who serve with us, send their greetings.

I had a wonderful visit with Dorothy Bair tonight. She said on her birthday last Monday her 101st grandchild was born. Wow!
(2449)

At the Beehive House this morning I was greeting a group of guests and looked up - to my surprise there was Kay Bensch and her daughter Christine from Ephrata.

We love to see and visit with wonderful friends. We missed you, Stan, and hope to see you on your next visit.
(2447)

We just received news that Dan and Edith Baker, Ed's brother and sister in law, are going to the Republic of the Congo on their next mission. They returned a year ago from Romania.

What a great adventure that will be.

Just us waiting for you to visit.
(2416-1)

President Dieter F. Uchtdorf (Second Counselor in the First Presidency) attended "Music and the Spoken Word" with a group of diplomats from Germany. Of course, when he stood up and waved to the people I did not have my camera ready.

From the left hand side of the picture his is the second head on the second row from the bottom.
(2439)

We spent a delightful week at the Family Tree Center on historic Main Street in Park City, Utah. This family search center was established during the Olympics and continues to be a wonderful missionary tool. As part of our mission we can be assigned to spend a day or a week at a time there.
(2434)

The family tree is made from old tires and extends from the basement to the main floor. There are faces on the tree so it really is a "family tree".
(2520)

Yes, I'm still a Realtor at heart. This is the living room of the couples apartment. It is on the top floor of the building. Two Sisters serve there for 6 weeks at a time. Their apartment is on the second floor along with the office.

The main floor and basement make up the Family Tree.
(2429)

This is the kitchen. Elder Millet found out it was impossible to make a lemon meringue pie without an egg beater.
(2430)

The bedroom had a walk-in closet and huge bath. Really, it was more like a vacation than an assignment.
(2427)

Main Street to the north from our balcony. It snowed the first night we were there - May 11.
(2426)

Main street to the South.
(2425)

The wild life is friendly.

While in Park City Elder Millet and I signed up to do Indexing. This effort enables people to find their family history simply by typing in a name. I met my goal and indexed 7004 names this week.
(2436)

Elder and Sister Butterfield are the directors of The Family Tree. Elder Butterfield served his mission with Lyle Bair, Ephrata 1st Ward.

The Family Tree Center is aptly named. As you can see there is a replica of a real tree that extends to the basement of the building. We'll take more pictures on our next visit.
(2431)

On Mother's Day the Mormon Tabernacle Choir sang a lovely number by Janice Kapp Perry and she was a special guest for "Music and the Spoken Word." After the program I got to see her. She took one look at me and said "Millet!" I didn't have time to explain but it was good to see her and Doug.

Well, another high adventure with the tunnels. Tonight we closed Legacy Theater and the tunnel under State Street was closed again. However, this time we simply pushed the call button, identified ourselves and presto --
