Our Halloween costumes were not very spooky but we enjoyed a little of the season in our colors. Trick or Treat?

The sun was not out bright enough to give a lot of color to the leaves. The wind is busy blowing and soon the trees will be bare.

Well, here we are, happy as can be in the Referral Center. We are having so much fun that we have extended our mission to 23 months instead of 18. We will go home in February 2010.

Wow! That seems like a long way off but time flies when you're having as much fun as we are. We love it here and are so fortunate to serve in the Salt Lake City Utah Temple Square Mission.

Cousin Betty Jeanne sent this cute card. This is a great idea for a busy missionary. Happy Everything. We love you and wish you our best.

ZCMI Place on South Temple which housed many fast-food restaurants is being torn down. Today, the huge dinosaur-like machines were doing their best to create a pile of debris. People gathered on the steps of the Church Administration Building to watch. It was exciting.

Idaho Mountain Express: Earl Holding: maverick entrepreneur has made fortune through hard work and patience

This is a very interesting article about Earl Holding. President Monson praised him as his classmate. The article makes him out to be less than charitable, but to be a honorary member of the MTC means, to me, that he gives quite a bit annonymously.

Idaho Mountain Express: Earl Holding: maverick entrepreneur has made fortune through hard work and patience

Imagine our surprise when they introduced the Earl Holding family and made them honorary members of the MTC. Brother Newell introduced President Monson who made the presentation. The picture is not good from so far away: Carol Holding, Earl Holdin(in the wheelchair), their family, President Monson, Brother Newell.

Well, after all these months we finally got to say a word or two to Lloyd Newell, the voice of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. "Hi, we're your cousin. Your grandmother and Elder Millet's grandfather were brother and sister." He smiled and introduced us to his son McKay who was sitting next to me. He's a very busy man and the broadcast is very time efficient.

Coming home from our late shift at Westgate we saw lights in the distance and could not believe 3 trees were lit up at the Church Office Building. It was great to see the first Christmas lights. And, yes, we broke our rule and jay-walked across the street - no traffic.

Jay-walking was such a temptation since our street is in the middle of the block. We made a firm (except this night) to simply walk to the end of the block. We need all the exercise we can get. Elder Millet is too good a cook and loves to make treats.

Happy Birthday, Joyce, celebrated at Leatherby's Ice Cream Parlor. What a great day! The Senior's celebrate once a month on Monday or Tuesday and everyone attends either day when they are not on duty. This was the Tuesday group for October.

The Sisters from the Disciple Zone helped tie quilts for their service project.

Sister Dayton helped as a table captain.

Sister Ownby was also a table captain.

I helped two tables.

Elder Millet was the photographer and helped with this table.

The Sisters did a great job. We finished 15 quilts.

Another surprise at the Beehive House - Susie and Teddi Luksan. I haven't seen them since Susie was a baby and was embarassed that I did not recognize them right off. What fun we had remembering old times while living in Lynden/Ferndale.

While working at the North Visitor's Center a couple came up to me and said, "We know your husband from Chico. We are the Halladay's - Dean and Judy."

At Music and the Spoken Word, Lloyd Newell announced that a special friend was visiting who was celebrating his 70th birthday. He introduced Kurt Wilson from Mount Vernon, Washington.

It was wonderful to see Paula and Kurt Wilson. He was our Stake President when we lived in Mount Vernon Stake.

Sunday, October 12 - the first snow of the season. We walked out to go to Church and were surprised.

The McLaughlin family, Jared, Danielle, Luther and Kathryn from Chico dropped by to say Hi. We love visitors.

This sweet lady came up to me at the tabernacle and said, "Is your name Joyce?" It was Linda Lingenbrink from Silverdale Stake. We had fun remembering Primary workshop days.

Kelly called and said, "I'm sending a picture you might enjoy."

To my surprise it was Sister Travola and her companion in Moscow, Idaho. She is on outbound from Temple Square and they met at Winko Foods. It is such a small world.

I find it hard to believe that I did not see anyone I knew from anywhere at Conference. I looked and looked and looked. We did make acquaintance with a lady from Blackfoot that works in the Idaho Falls temple with Bill, Elder Millet's brother who lives in Rigby. I guess we need more friends.
It was raining so hard and was so cold on Sunday morning that we wore our raincoats and were very, very thankful for our BIG Temple Square umbrella.

President Monson said he wanted to talk about things that had been on his mind for some time. He talked about change and, true to form, was so positive and upbeat. He encouraged us to recognize what is important and what is not, to find joy in the journey, to be grateful for our many, many blessings and to be "Happy All My Life."

The Spirit whispered to me that he truly is a Prophet of God. Every speaker was inspired. What a great conference.
The closing hymn for Sunday morning session was "The morning breaks, the shadows flee; Lo, Zion's standard is unfurled! The dawning of a brighter day, Majestic rises on the world." What a great postlude for President Monson's talk.

Outside, the weather had changed and the sun was as bright as the song.

I am so fortunate to have such a wonderful husband. We are so fortunate to serve on Temple Square and be so close to the temple.

Can you believe a temple will be built in Rome, Italy. That will be one we will like to see.
(3007-2)

The Conference Center is truly amazing. Over 100,000 people were on Temple Square. We were very, very busy. It was wonderful to attend both morning sessions and listen to the Priesthood session on the internet as we worked Wastgate Saturday night. I think Conference gets better and better, or as Leanne said, "Perhaps I get better and better and can appreciate it more." Thanks for the insight Leanne.

October 4 - my birthday. It was great to have Roger, Leanne, Samantha and April visit for conference. We went out to dinner with Ernie Pratt and his daughter, Sierra. Can you believe I did not take a picture? Ten slashes with a wet noodle. We had a great time.

Yes, there is a few minutes for the important things in life - a Scrabble game. I couldn't believe the awful hands I drew . . . we will finish after Conference.
(2999)

We arrived at the Conference Center in plenty of time to sit at the front of the Balcony section. Samantha, April, Leanne, and Roger. The only problem was that we were the last to get out after Conference was over. Remember, the first shall be last . . .

It was exciting to hear that temples will be built in Rome, Italy; Calgary, Alberta; Kansas City area, Pennsylvania, and Argentina. The conference was wonderful. It was great to be there.
(3000)

What can I say? I am still the Scrabble Queen. The winning word was HARPOONS on the triple word score - 7 letters, no less. I was lucky enough to draw both blanks. Better luck next trip, Roger.
(3001)

Ready to go home. What a fun visit. It was great to spend my birthday with family.
