There are 138 Bishop's Storehouses around the world. They supply food free of charge to anyone with an order signed by their Bishop. In addition to members of the Church, this storehouse serves 75-100 homeless people in the Salt Lake area every day. They come and talk with a transient Bishop who asses their needs and makes out an order.

In addition to caring for the poor and needy we encourage self-reliance and each person is encouraged to work for what they get and many, many do. There are jobs aplenty here.

The orders for food are filled by a "host" who checks off the items as they are put in the grocery cart. As missionaries we have the opportunity to serve as hosts. The storehouse is just like a store but there is no cash register. Everything is free. Due to the sensitive nature of the storehouse I did not take a picture.
